Professor Hasson uses EveryWord speech recognition technology to quantitatively assess infants’ sensorimotor and social interactions in real-world settings. The goal is to create a large database consisting of the (densely sampled) visual and auditory stimuli that surround babies during their first 1,000 days of life.
The study uses video cameras and the audio capture feature of EveryWord in 20 households of the participating families to collect data on caregiver-child interactions. The EveryWord solution was chosen for the study because of its effectiveness in filtering out extraneous noise typical of the home environment while capturing even the most subtle of utterances between mother and baby.
