LONDON – NTT Ltd. announced today its collaboration with Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, to deliver Private 5G (P5G) – an on-premise private network solution and digitization platform that can significantly advance digital solutions in the manufacturing environment. The long-standing partnership between NTT and Schneider Electric builds on existing joint strategic innovations that help customers achieve efficiency and sustainability goals with advanced digital processes within Industry X sectors.

In early 2022, the P5G platform will be piloted at Schneider’s Lexington Smart Factory, the first of Schneider Electric’s U.S. facilities to become a smart factory flagship site leveraging IoT connectivity, edge analytics and predictive analytics to To promote energy efficiency and other sustainability goals. The P5G will support key use cases that solve challenges related to device availability, machine performance and product quality. For example, the companies will integrate “machine vision” capabilities (industrial cameras with special optics) into existing factory and warehouse automation systems that identify failures and causes of wear and tear in near real time.

Through co-innovation, the solution will provide an operational health management model that scales across a broad footprint of global factory environments to drive Industry 4.0 and enable network edge platforms.

Other P5G use cases to cover include:

  • Unrestricted connectivity for improved management of AGV equipment in a factory enabling more efficient and accurate workflow systems.
  • Image processing application to detect anomalies in machine performance to ensure high performance, availability and product quality.
  • Augmented reality solutions that enable remote worker support for improved device maintenance and management and worker experience.

“With this strategic partnership, we are confident that NTT’s P5G solution will support Schneider Electric’s business and service goals with a powerful vision solution that ensures business continuity and performance at the Lexington and Lincoln plants,” said Shahid Ahmed, EVP New Ventures and Innovation at NTT. “Our P5G platform offers full-stack managed services, process workflow and IoT application integration capabilities, both addressing strategic goals towards factory high performance and net-zero carbon emissions goals.”

“By partnering with NTT, Schneider Electric continues to expand its manufacturing expertise along with data center and network solutions to drive innovation for standalone Edge Private 5G use cases,” said Luc Rémont, Executive Vice President International Operations at Schneider Electric.

“Beyond the superior security and control this partnership offers, wireless networks offer superior advantages over a wired network from a sustainability perspective – less space required for copper cabling means minimizing energy consumption and aligning with our net-zero carbon goals,” added Remont.

To further expand the partnership, NTT will deploy its private 5G services and data centers with Schneider Electric technologies, including a pre-engineered data center to integrate and test its edge offerings with EcoStruxure™ solutions. This is expected to be 100% operational at Schneider Electric’s plants in Q2 2022.

Schneider Electric pre-engineered data centers help cloud and service providers scale quickly and efficiently while meeting their sustainability goals. In addition to a 60% reduction in uptime compared to traditional data centers, these pre-engineered modular data centers are manufactured with sustainable designs and features that increase reliability, optimize operational energy savings and leave a smaller environmental footprint.
